One of the most powerful features of Goods is its unique categorization. You can set up as many categories as you like and each category can contain subcategories. Each category and subcategory can contain as many attributes as you need to uniquely identify and describe each inventory item. There is now a built-in category called Listings to better-support item listings. The category view now supports drag and drop to easily rearrange categories.

Goods is a perpetual inventory system and supports all three costing methods: FIFO (first in first out), LIFO (last in first out), and Average Cost. Internationally, FIFO is preferred as it is the most true to life method, although in the U.S., all methods are used. Accounting standards discourage changing costing methods, so try to pick the one which will serve you best. Perpetual inventory is the most difficult type to implement. Many systems use a periodical method, in which case the costing is only calculated at the end of a period. With perpetual every item is costed constantly so you can always see accurately what your true costs are for each item.

Goods has flexible units of measure. Quantities such as: 5.5, or 5 1/2 are not allowed in most inventory systems. We support these for item quantities and also for numeric attributes. For example, an item could have an attribute called length and a value of 42 7/8 could be entered. You could search for items whose length is between 40.1 and 50 3/4.

Images are also supported for each item. Any number of image attributes can be set for a category.

We have built-in advertising support also. You can add images to an item and construct a rich-text description of the item, and export this information for easy posting to online stores such as eBay and Easy. And now with the eBay Listing Service, you can post directly to eBay with a simple click!
